Bienvenue à L'École Bilingue,
Vancouver's first and largest French Immersion Centre!

PAC Meeting Highlights

PAC Meeting, Nov 2nd, 2009. With a healthy balance in the general fund raising account, parents at the meeting voted in favor of funding a number of technology upgrades for the school including 3 smart boards, a new overhead projector for the computer lab, computer tables for the library and an LCD/TV/DVD player, as well as drama and hip-hop classes for the whole school that will take place later in the school year.

The PAC Exec thanked the Quebec Exchange Committee, the Grade 7s and their parents for their fabulous hosting of the Halloween Haunt and Burt announced the dates are set for the Quebec exchange - Rochebelle students will be visiting April 15th to 23rd and our Grade 7s leave for Quebec on May 6th, returning May17th.

The Parents at Lunch program is going strong, but volunteers are always appreciated. If you can spare a lunch time to help supervise lunchtime activities for elementary students (Grades 1, 2 and 3) in the playground at the front of the school, you get to jump rope, play hockey or draw with chalks! Just show up, or contact our parent lead Arne Mackenrot (contact info available via infoecolebilingue[at]gmail.com)

Finally, we are happy to announce the formation of the L'École Bilingue PAC Sustainability Committee. Janet Webber gave an eloquent presentation of their goals and planned events. We hope the whole school will get on-board to help foster awareness and appreciation for our planet and the impact our choices have on our kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and future generations.

Full minutes of the meeting will be distributed via e-mail and on the web-site.

PAC - Guest Speaker

On December 3rd, guest speaker Terry Small will present "How to get better grades in school"

Terry Small's student success system shows your kids how to take charge of their time and succeed! Parents and students attend this seminar together to learn proven strategies and study secrets that have helped 150,000 students to excel. You can make this your child's best year ever in school! The most important secret is a great study strategy! You will have fun and be entertained. The seminar is suitable for students of all abilities in Gr. 4 to 12, but is also of interest to parents with younger children.

Please bring your kids and join us December 3rd at 7:00pm (location TBA).

International Walk to School Month, October, 2009.

Thanks to everyone in the L'École Bilingue community for your participation in the activities scheduled for IWALK. It was wonderful to see so many of you try Take Transit Tuesday, the Pédibus, Celebrate Sidewalk Footprints and Whacky Wheels. We hope you enjoyed the display in the foyer.

The Pédibus, the walking school bus, left Heather Park at 18th and Heather at 8:30am sharp on Wednesday, October 7th and has continued to do so each Wednesday morning ever since!

Visit www.translink.ca for more information about the two busses that service our school. #17 Oak/Downtown/UBC (schedule) (map) and #33 29th Ave Stn/UBC (schedule) (map).

We hope you are inspired to take opportunities all year long to relieve parking congestion, air pollution and potential accidents around the school. You can park a block from the school, take transit, wheel, and, of course, walk.
